Wedding Memories

By

If y’all can believe it, this Sunday marks Michael’s and my 12-year anniversary. I could’ve sworn we just got married last year, but that’s probably because we still haven’t left that honeymoon phase yet. I am just so over-the-moon about that man that I think someone may have to give me a big ol’ slap to get the silly grin off my face that I get when I look at him. But I guess that’s just the way it goes when you’re married to your soul mate.

I still look back on my wedding day just as giddy as a schoolgirl. I don’t think my feet were ever on the floor—I was just floatin’ from sheer happiness. Everything that day was perfect, from the location and flowers to the guests and food.

I had to get a little help (OK, more like a lot of help) with the wedding planning, but I couldn’t just up and let someone else take hold of my menu for the big day. How people would talk if Paula Deen’s wedding didn’t have lots of good Southern food! No, I had to have the menu my way, and I’m glad I did because food can really make a special day even grander.

In honor of that special day and my very special husband, I’m sharin’ my wedding menu with y’all again, just in case you need a little reminder—after all, it was 12 years ago!

Paula Deen - As a young girl growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paula Deen never dreamed she would become an American icon. As a young mother, Paula was living the American dream — married to her high school sweetheart and raising two adorable boys — when tragedy struck. Her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia. With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started The Bag Lady, a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen's professional cooking career. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering lunch-and-love-in-a-bag, beginning in June 1989, Paula turned her life around by sharing what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.

Congratulations to you and your handsome groom on your 12th wedding anniversary! We saw you at Tarpon Lodge and you certainly looked happy! A member of your party kindly helped as my husband was getting out of the car with his "oxygen helper", and later you held the door as other members of our table arrived. Gracious Southern Hospitality! My husband and I hopefully will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in June. Second marriages are a blessing!

Congratulations! We were excited to see you at Tarpon Lodge as we arrived for dinner last evening. (A member of your party graciously held the car door as my husband got out with his "oxygen helper."). We will be celebrating our 10th and still in our "honeymoon phase."
